Hi all!

I just recently finished an album for a friend filled with some of my favorite low-carb recipes as well as space for her to add some of her own. I used the Echo Park Digital Paper pack #1 as well as one of the digital element packs and printed my own papers scaled down to a 6"x6" size. I used heavy chipboard covers and then mixed the pages up a bit. Some pages are a double sided cardstock and some are paper bags so that there would be pockets for adding recipes and such. I also added in a little brown bag that my sweet husband saved for me from the hardware store. It measures approximately 3.5"x5"and perfectly holds the 3 journaling tags I put in it for her to write her own recipes.
I also wanted to share one of the yummiest chicken dishes I have come up with. I'm sure it's been done before because it's a pretty classic combination of flavors, but I still feel pretty creative coming up with it on my own. First off, I have to say that the inspiration came from this YUMMY snack/appetizer that I found on Pinterest. The recipe is for grilled bacon jalapeno wraps and comes from allrecipes.com. It is one of the easiest and yummiest things we have ever tasted and they have become a new staple.

So, knowing that we couldn't truly make a meal out of these, I decided to use the same ingredients inside a chicken breast. Mmmmm....sooooo good! And easy!

Jalapeno Stuffed Chicken Breasts

4 Chicken breasts, butterflied

4 strips of bacon, cooked and crumbled

4 Tbl of cream cheese or Neufchatel

2-4 Jalapeno peppers depending on size or taste, diced or sliced into rings

Olive Oil

salt

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Drizzle Olive Oil in a shallow baking dish.

Rinse chicken, pat dry and butterfly.

Spread 1 Tbl cream cheese on one side of the chicken breast and add equal portions of pepper and bacon. Fold the chicken breast back over the filling and lay in the baking dish.

Drizzle some more olive oil over the tops of the breasts and add salt to taste.

Bake for 30-35 minutes or until chicken is cooked through.

Sorry! I don't have pictures, but you don't need pictures to know this one is gonna be good!

Also, just a tip for those who have not handled hot peppers before. Make sure to wear gloves while slicing and dicing your peppers. You can use your rubber dish gloves. If you have nothing, make sure to thoroughly wash your hands before touching your eyes! Trust me! You don't want to find out why, just do it! : ) Also, if you want just a mild pepper flavor, make sure to remove the seeds and ribs from your pepper before dicing. If you want a full, hot pepper flavor, simply slice your peppers, leaving seeds and ribs intact and place inside breasts. This is how we prefer it and it is really good!

Enjoy!

I haven't posted for 4 months and am now composing my 4th entry for the day! Hopefully I can stay caught up a little. This post is just a little photo recap of what we've been doing this summer. We've celebrated three birthdays, including mine, went camping, set up a "new to us" Rainbow play systems swing set in our backyard, played t-ball, lived, loved, laughed and sent our oldest off to school for the first time! It has been an eventful 4 months and it seems as though time is flying by.
The leaves start to fall and there's a chill in the air. It gets darker earlier and we stock up on CANDY! Yep, it's almost Halloween and this year I got an itch to create a Halloween wreath for the front door. I had to convince my hubby to let me spend the money to make one and so I had to do a little begging and borrowing. I used patterned papers from Echo Park's Apothecary Emporium collection that I had bought last year, Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Black Soot, a little spanish moss, 4" wood letters, MS glitter in Crystal , some plastic, black bugs from the dollar store, an 18" grapevine wreath, some flat, black spray paint and an orange/black lace printed satin ribbon. That sounds like a lot, but it only cost me $9! Ok, so I already had the paper and the ink and I made the rosettes with my MS score board and paper punches, which I already had. I covered the wood letters with paper and gave them a coat of Mod Podge, again which I already had, and then sprinkled on some glitter. So, I didn't add in the cost of those already purchased items, but if you had to buy rosettes, you would probably spend an additional $5 to $7. Mod Podge is pricey, but you can make your own. There's a great tutorial here. I also borrowed some spray paint from my lovely friend, Mary. I ran out, quickly, of the flat black and so I finished with chalkboard spray paint which works just as well and gives it a slight satin like finish, which I like. My hubby informed me of the fact that they have $1 cans of white or black spray paint at Home Depot. So, either way, it wouldn't have been what I expected to pay ($5.99) for a can of paint at the craft store. So, here's the break down:

Wreath $3.99 + 50% off @ Joann Fabrics
Paint Free
Wood Letters $1.47/2 pack of the same letter = $3 + 40% off @ Hobby Lobby
Plastic Bugs $1 @ Dollar Tree
Ribbon $3.99 + 50% off @ Joann Fabrics
Spanish Moss $1 @ Dollar Tree

And here's the wreath!
I have yet to get some adhesive for my hook for the front door. When I do, I'll post photos of the front of the house. Since hanging our new front door, I am excited to try a new way of hanging my wreath that I saw on Pinterest. It is credited to a cute little blog named Lemonade. Check it out here. Speaking of new front doors, here is a photo of ours. We moved in 3 years ago and have a long list of "To Dos". I think it turned out pretty nice!

I want to share some photos of a fun, little toilet paper roll mini album I made for a sweet, sweet friend of my sister's who is expecting her second girl in just a few weeks. Her name is Heather and she and her husband have been praying and waiting for this new addition for quite some time. Their first daughter, now 5, was just as long awaited and this new life is such a huge answer to prayer and such a blessing! I wanted her to have a fun place to keep some cute photos of her girls together. I love having two girls and love knowing that they will always have each other. My sister and I are separated by coasts, I on the West and she on the East, and it's hard to be so far away, but we are very close. She's always been there for me, even if it was just emotionally and spiritually and not physically. So, Heather, enjoy your girls and nurture a great friendship between them. This is for you!!!
A LONG while since I posted last. I've been busy and to be honest, am not much of a writer. I have always admired those who can sit down and eloquently put words to paper and get so much fulfillment from it. My sister is a fabulous writer. She always has been and I was always a little jealous. That being said, I am now attempting an eloquent, yet amusing entry.

First off, I have to admit that I have not felt very creative lately. I don't know if it's because of the busy-ness or because I haven't been inspired by anything. My oldest started Kindergarten this year and it has been a whirlwind. By the time I do have time to myself, I want to sit down and do nothing! I have, however, completed several different projects and am hoping that the mojo returns. I recently completed a couple paper mache monograms for friends' children's rooms, but failed to photograph them. Really?! One of them was for a friend who is due with her 3rd child in less than 3 weeks and needed some nursery decor. I will have to request a photo shoot with both recipients and post them at a later date. They both turned out so cute!

I have also finished a couple mini albums. One of them was also for this same friend who is having a little girl. So, I put together a mini paper bag album using Crate Paper's Pretty Party Collection. I love Crate Paper and I love this paper! It is so sweet! I just finished this album late, last night, so I have not yet added ribbon to the binding.
It is late and I should be going to bed since I have to be up early tomorrow for church, but this couldn't wait. Elliot, my beautiful, almost 5 year old son and first born child, has been asking to craft with me all week and I will admit that I've been putting him off. I feel bad, but every time he asks, I'm in the middle of mine and needing to start dinner. I have been telling him maybe after dinner, but then my husband has been getting home late and there's no one to help me keep my younger girls out of the craft supplies. FYI, ink, glitter, glue and scissors don't ever mix well with new living room furniture when you have a 20 month old running around. Anyway, my poor Elliot just came down with a nasty cold and was feeling awful after dinner, running a low grade fever. We were eating BBQ outside on the back patio and he was just freezing so my husband decided he would build an outdoor fire in our backyard chiminea. However, for some reason Elliot yelled out, no mommy, I want to craft. Can I craft with you?! So sweet! I wasn't even planning on crafting, but how could I resist? Despite feeling horrible, he insisted on crafting instead of resting, so after a dose of Ibuprofen and cold and allergy medicine, we began our crafting. I have been making paper bag albums and so he has been requesting a paper bag, glue stick, scissors, paper punches and ink. He loves the butterfly punch and uses that often. He says he's making an album. So cute! I had some bottle caps laying around and grabbed those and asked if he could use them. Such vision! I said, of course! This is what he made. I had to share.
The only thing I helped him do was punch out the 1" circles to fit inside the bottle caps, but he told me where on the paper he wanted me to punch. He also, on his own, has started drawing flight paths behind his butterflies. It's amazing what kids pick up or what their imagination or creativity creates. Elliot really is a creative child. He is quite the artist. I didn't really even look at his creation since my husband and I were trying to whisk him off to bed. He kept stalling, adding to his creation even though we told him it was time for bed. I talked to him tonight about layering. I gave him a few sheets of patterned and solid cardstock. He cut everything on his own and punched the butterflies too. He was feeling a little stumped on where he was going to place his last piece of cut paper since he was running out room. This is when I told him about overlapping and layering. You can see his use of layering above in picture 3 with the 2 squares of cardstock and the smile stamp overlay (I love his smiley face sunshine). I was so engrossed in my own craft project, complimenting him along the way, but it wasn't until I really looked at it in the kitchen that my heart overflowed with a great admiration and deep appreciation for my son. What a beautiful, talented and creative soul. I had to share!
Ok, I know it's early, but I have been wanting to do some Christmas crafting and at the rate I work, it's good to start early. I have found a fun, new album to create as well. I have heard of TP mini albums and have even seen a few on YouTube, but never made one. I even saved TP rolls for a while and then threw them all away thinking I would never use them, but I was inspired again by Clare Charvill. She has a You Tube Channel, charliejones2686, and she is incredibly talented. She was just recently selected for the Graphic 45 design team. If you haven't seen her work, you really should. Anyway, I have had some of the cutest Christmas paper just waiting to be used. I had used it in an earlier project and have been itching to use it again. It is the Very Merry collection from October Afternoon. I love October Afternoon papers. They are so cute and have just the right amount of vintage. I also had some dimensional chipboard stickers from K and Company that I had bought to coordinate with the collection as well as a sheet of the Imaginisce Gingerbread Village cardstock I found at Michael's and a 12 x 12 die cut sheet from My Mind's Eye 12 days of Christmas line. All of these lines had greens, turquoise, red, brown and pink. My favorite Christmas color combination! The only other thing I used was some ribbon and Maya Road mini chipboard snowflakes that I inked white and then used my glossy accents to adhere some snow white glitter. I had so much fun making it and I think it turned out so cute!
If you're considering making a TP album, FIRST save as many rolls as you want pages. I suggest doing this first, because I started with only 2 in hand and then had to painstakingly wait until my family and I had finally gone through another roll of toilet paper before finishing another page. : ) Not only was it hard to wait, but it messed with my creative process. I had some great ideas and then when I went back to execute them, I would forget what I had planned. Not horribly, but enough that I had to make things work. For example, the snowflake on page 6. I cut the paper and had all my embellishments waiting for my TP roll and then when I finally went to execute it, I placed my die cut ribbon too high and had to turn my snowflake so that it didn't cover up the text. It's really not a big deal, but it was at the time because it's not how I wanted it. But, alas, it works and if I hadn't told you, you would be none the wiser. NEXT, take your rolls and squash them flat. Using a bone folder or the edge of a ruler, really flatten the edges flat. THEN, using an iron, I really flattened them out using the high, dry heat setting on my iron. I got this idea to iron them from Clare. Brilliant! Once you've done this, your pages are ready for decorating. NEXT, I cut my paper. My rolls measured approximately 2.5" x 4.5". So, I trimmed my paper to fit, glued it down using tacky glue and then sanded my edges for a nice, clean edge. I always ink my edges, so I used Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Barn Door. Once my paper was adhered, I then embellished as desired.
My plan is to use this album to document what the kids want for Christmas this year and to save it as a memento. So, I stamped 3 of the 4 tags made to fit inside each page (roll) and put each kiddos name on it. On the back, we'll write their list. There are 4 tags total. The 4th does not have a stamp. I put Dec. 25 on it and on the back we'll put a picture of the kids on Christmas day with their haul.
I wanted to keep this fairly simple and so I added only 1 photo mat for each kiddo. I made it a book style mat measuring 2.25"x 2.25" square that can accommodate up to 3, 2"x2" square photos. There are 8 pages total including the front and back covers, but only 3 photo mats, total, with 4 tags. 1 for each TP roll pocket. You could do whatever you want. That's where the fun and individuality comes in.
FINALLY, I used my bind it all to bind it, but you could bind it with ribbon or binding rings. Clare shows another way to bind with cardstock on her channel if you're curious. There are so many ways. YouTube is a great place for many tutorials. I finished it off by tying ribbons to my binding wire and voila! Done. I can't wait to fill it up!

I hope everyone's enjoying the warmer, even if it is wet, weather. ; ) My family and I have been suffering from a nasty stomach flu this week and so for me to finish a project is a miracle, but I have done it. It seems like finishing projects is a miracle these days whether I'm sick or not. However, Mother's Day is next weekend as you know and I hadn't yet started anything for my mother in law, even though I've had ideas swimming around in my head for weeks. My very sweet and generous friend Brandy, who is a scrapbooking goddess (Paper Crafting OCBrandy Style), sent me a really cute, naked, acrylic tag album in a recent card swap as well as some other goodies. I have never done an acrylic album before, but I think I may have discovered a new favorite! I love that you can layer top and bottom and that if you leave one page blank, you can see the page (see page 3/4. The photo is matted, but the rest of the tag is blank.) behind creating a new dimension. Love it, love it, love it! I also loved the size and shape of this album. It measures about 3x6" and I used standard 2 1/4 x 3" wallet sized photos except for the 1.5" circle punched photos. Those varied. Also, the photo of my husband and I was cropped from a 4x6". I used Restoration collection papers and stickers from Crate Paper along with some MS punches, Fiskars punches and flat backed adhesive pearls. I did some fussy cutting and hand stamping and inked all edges with Tim Holtz Walnut distress ink. It was super easy and so fun! I am very pleased with it. Now, go find something to make Mom. You know she'll love it.
I finally got around to making some cards. I have been wanting to for a while. They are quick and easy and they are a good way to use up scraps. I just listed 2 in my Etsy shop, ScrapMad. One is a Mother's Day card and the other is an all occasion card. The Mother's Day card was made using scraps from my Authentique Splendid collection that I made my "family" mini album from and the other is made from scraps of my Basic Grey Hello Luscious papers. I LOVE Basic Grey's Hello Luscious line. I love everything I've ever made from these papers. Hop on over to Etsy.com and take a peak. I will also take custom orders for those of you needing cards for your moms for mother's day. I will take orders up until the 4th of May. Please contact me via e-mail at mandirickard@msn.com, send me a message via facebook or leave a comment here to place an order. (Visit www.antiochadoptions.org to get more information on becoming a Godparent, donating or becoming a forever family for a kid in need of a home.) Before I even started, I was praying that God could use me and poof, scrapbooksteals.com listed a huge collection of scrapbook papers worth over $100 for $16.99! I couldn't believe it, so I prayed for the Lord's blessing if it was to be used for His purpose and what do you know, my husband didn't mind. That almost NEVER happens! : ) So, I ended up with Authentique's Splendid collection and the album turned out beautiful. I still have enough paper left to make several albums, cards, etc., so I will be able to donate more from this lot.

The album is titled "Friends and family make a home". The colors of the paper are really pretty. Plum, peacock blue, pink, gold, green, chocolate brown, robin egg blue, kraft brown and cream. The patterns are great too. Herringbone, stripe, floral, wood grain and plaid, with a bingo card pattern and a vintage ad too. Please visit my shop to purchase or to view other items listed.
I have been crafty, but busy and so I haven't made a point to check in. I've completed a couple of paper bag minis since my last post and find them to come together really easy, making them addicting! However, time is still tight and so I have been torn between putting my feet up at 8:30 pm and scrapping until the cows come home. Putting my feet up has won out lately, but I am trying to dedicate time to my crafting since I have dedicated it to becoming my ministry. We have all been created with a purpose and mine (besides cleaning, cooking, changing diapers and kissing boo boos) is to create. I have been struggling lately with dedicating my time to my home and family and having any time to myself. My husband and I have even more recently argued about the time I spend crafting and the energy and money it takes. My biggest concern was that when I did have time to myself, I wasn't spending it in the scripture or with my creator, almighty God. I know him and I love him, but making an album just seemed so much more fun. I was slipping away a little more each day, making excuses. I knew something was going to give and it did. The Lord spoke to me, gently, but clearly in more ways than one.

First off, my husband came home a few weeks ago on a Friday and said that he felt that the Lord had been speaking to him about adoption. We have 3 kiddos ages 19 months, just 3, and 4 1/2. I had my tubes tied after the 3rd. So, of course you can imagine my reaction. I laughed as though he were joking, but he wasn't. Deep breath! That same Sunday in the bulletin there was an announcement for an informational meeting about Antioch Adoptions for that next day, Monday! Goosebumps! I wasn't sure what this was all to mean. I just knew that we had to go to that meeting. After sitting through the meeting my husband and I agreed that this maybe wasn't the time to bring a child into our home, but I couldn't get it out of my mind and heart and knew I had to do something in some way. We are commanded by God to care for the widows and orphans and I knew that meant me. James 1:27 says "Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress...". Bringing a child into your home isn't always the only way to help. Antioch Adoptions is an adoption agency that offers free adoption and depends on financial support from fundraising and donations. So I knew that there were other ways to be obedient.

Second, the latest series at church has been called "Not a fan", based on a book written by Kyle Idleman. What a convicting series. We can be fans or committed, whole hearted followers of Christ. One Sunday, in particular, the Holy Spirit was really having His way with me, thanks to Pastor David Lewellyn. (Love his preaching. Go David!) The sermon was about making God our one and only. While I felt like I was a pretty good follower and not just a fan, I was convicted knowing that I had been feeling torn between crafting and time with the Lord. I knew that the Lord had created me to be artistic and so it wasn't that I should give up my hobby, just that I should do it in a way that was pleasing to Him.

So, a couple weeks ago I felt the Lord saying to me, "Mandi, use your talents for Me. I want to be your one and only! Don't put your crafting before me, use it for me." So, I have decided to sell my scrapbooks, cards, etc. on Etsy.com and donate 100% of my profits to Antioch Adoptions while nurturing a relationship with my Savior that is more rewarding than anything I can do or create. My husband jokingly accused me of using that to justify my addiction, : ) but he is in full support and I know that is a blessing from the Lord. I am praying that this endeavor would prove fruitful for God's purpose and that He will be glorified and blessed through it. All prayers would be appreciated concerning sales, obtaining low cost supplies so that more can be donated and time/energy to complete each product. Pray that each project is pleasing to Him and that I would have "healthy eyes".
I decided I wanted to decorate her nursery using a 23" papier mache letter "K" from Joann Fabrics and Crafts.( Click here for buying info from Joann Fabrics.) She had the patchwork star nursery bedding from Pottery Barn in pink, green and yellow. I decided I would mimic her quilt and so started my project.
Unfortunately I don't have start to finish photos since this post is an afterthought, but I started with a bare letter "K" like the letter "E" below.

Then I chose 12x12 patterned papers from Joann's open cardstock that matched the the colors in the quilt. You should only need 1 sheet of each type of paper, but having an extra sheet is always a good idea. I chose 5-7 different patterns/colors for each letter. I then cut each sheet into 2x2" squares. After my paper was cut, I laid my squares out in the order I wanted them and repeated this pattern top to bottom, side to side. Before gluing my paper, I painted the sides of my letter with acrylic craft paint. Once dry, I glued each piece by hand, making painstaking cuts where needed. After all my pieces were placed and everything was sufficiently glued down, I used Tim Holtz distress ink in Vintage photo to give it an aged, antiqued look. Then, using a foam brush, I covered the entire thing in Glossy Mod Podge. Once it was dry, I used upholstery tacks to outline the letter. Then, I traced one of the stars on the quilt and cut it out of one of my papers and adhered it along with a ribbon and some chipboard with Karis' name spelled out to embellish the letter. I also used a little bit of pom pom trim on the top and bottom. Here are the other two I have just finished for my other two kiddos Elliot and Olivia.

I used Basic Grey Sweet Threads papers for Olivia's "O"

I meant to have this posting up yesterday, but I am fighting an awful head cold! Not to mention I have been busy. I have been working on a few projects, but nothing that I have finished for posting. My most recent project was the cards I made for my Valentine's this year. I think they turned out so cute!
Elliot's card

I took a 12x12 piece of red cardstock and cut out 4 4x8" pieces of paper and scored them at 4". I folded them in half and then cut my cream mat at 3.5x3.5". Then I took my ADORABLE valentine's paper and cut it at 3.25x3.25? square, fussy cutting around the figure that I wanted to stand out. For example, the little fisherman above. Then I embellished with red baker's twine, black cardstock stickers, red self adhesive rhinestones, bottle caps, handmade roses, punched flowers and cardstock letter stickers.

I am working on my first paper bag album, thanks to Brandy! She has been so good about sharing how-tos with me. Thank you! I even scraplifted her matting formula. She is a scrapbooking genius! You can check out her Etsy store at http://www.etsy.com/shop/ocbrandy or her facebook page by clicking here. Brandy also has listings on eBay with the design team The Paper Hen House. You can search their listings by typing TPHH in the search bar. All of Brandy's creations are beautiful! Her attention to detail and her sense of color and design is impeccable. Also, she has great taste in papers! ; )

So, again, thank you Brandy! I will be sharing some photos of the album when it is finished. I hope everyone had a wonderful Valentine's Day!Mandihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12452606575193661146noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-690110738125134441.post-62782485961678194502012-01-21T11:10:00.000-08:002012-02-18T19:37:30.713-08:00Scrapbook Steals Midweek Mojo Garnet #6 "First Ride"Here is my layout for this week's Midweek Mojo sketch. While I have 3 children, I realized that I used more photos of my middle child. Sorry Elliot and Karis. I have been wanting to use these papers from Basic Grey's "Sweet Threads" line and the colors matched perfectly. Not to mention they didn't lend themselves to a masculine layout. : ) And my poor baby. Not only are there fewer photos of her, but none of them have been ordered either. : ( So, Olivia it was, again and these photos aren't even current. I think I need to do some organizing and ordering in the photo department.
I inked all edges with Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Wild Honey. The large paper flower in the top left hand corner was made with a 1 1/2" paper punch. I wrinkled and folded the edges of 5 circles and then overlapped them. I finished it with another 1 1/2" circle in the middle. The rest of the paper flowers are Prima's Teal Got Flowers bottle of mulberry flowers finished with an adhesive pearl in the center. I made the paper rosette in the lower right hand corner by cutting a 1"strip of paper 12" long. I then scored it every 1/4" and adhered the ends. Then I turned it out and hot glued it to a 1 1/2" circle, added another circle to the other side and embellished it. There are a lot of great tutorials on YouTube if you want to watch a how to. Just search paper rosettes. The word "ride" and the letters on the journaling strips were printed off of MS Word, cut out and adhered. You can also find a lot of great fonts to download for free on the internet if you don't have one you like already installed on your hard drive. This particular font is called Special Elite and I downloaded it from www.fontspace.com.

The first is a mini chipboard album, measuring 4"x5", for my grandmother. I am terrible at sending photos of the kiddos and thought this would be a nice brag book for her to have. It's small enough that she can carry it with her in her purse. I repurposed the Cheerios box from Costco for the pages. It is a perfect weight cardboard. Heavier than the regular cereal boxes at the grocery store, but not so heavy that I couldn't cut them myself. I then covered it with some of my favorite paper from Basic Grey called Sublime. The collection has long been retired and it will be a truly sad day when I use up my last scrap! :. ( I inked the edges with black ink and embellished with punched flowers, stickers and rub ons. The mats are cut at 3.5"x2.75" for a wallet size photo ( I always cut my mats at 1/4", so I add 1/2" to my total size. If it's a 4"x6", then my mat is cut 4.5"x6.5"). Here are few photos of that album.

The next project was an altered wooden birdhouse measuring 2.5"x3"x4.5" that I found at a local thrift store for $0.99. This was fun, but challenging since there was no way to trace a template. I had to do a lot of measuring and cutting to cover the house. Once the house was initially covered with paper (DCWV linen closet) and mod podged, then I started embellishing. I used my Fiskars "Threading Water" edger punch to create the roof and the edging around the bottom. I inked all my paper before placement with the Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Vintage Photo. I used a "fence" sticker, which I had to cut down, around the bottom part of the house. I finished it off with Martha Stewart Smoky Quartz glitter on the roof line and a fussy cut crown rub on from Prima at the peak. My rub ons are all Prima from the Madeline collection.

Lastly is a tiny little schoolhouse that I put together thanks to Martha Stewart's Winter Village template. For templates click here. This is a tedious project but if you are detail oriented like me and enjoy the reward of such work, it's so worth it! They are really adorable and can be used in many ways. Martha says to use chipboard and paint them, then cover with glitter snow. But I thought, why not use heavyweight cardstock? Then I don't have to paint them or try to cut out chipboard with a craft knife. Ugh! So, once again I used my favorite Basic Grey Sublime papers and created this adorable little schoolhouse. I used vellum to cover the window openings which allows light through. I used Tacky glue and it held really well. I plan on finishing a whole village someday.

I then inked all the edges with black ink (this was not a Tim Holtz distress ink, but that is my ink of choice). I "popped" a couple of the flowers out with foam adhesive squares and added adhesive pearls.

I LOVE this punch! It's beautiful and versatile. I offset the edge as outlined in the sketch. I finished by adding a little journaling tag. I just typed out a little blurb in MS Word and printed it out on cardstock, adhered it to chipboard, inked the paper with Tim Holtz distress ink in Vintage Photo and the edges with black ink and voila! Whew, that was it! Lol! It isn't hard, just time consuming.

However, I realized that I spend an awful lot of time on the internet drawing inspiration from other artists work. So, I figured, why not share my work so that others can draw inspiration from me. While my husband is very supportive and my children, enthusiastic, I felt that it was finally time to share my work with others. That's what art is for anyway, right? Other than to satisfy a yearning in the artists heart, art is made to be shared. To communicate what your heart cannot verbalize. It reflects an inward and outward style. So, thank you for letting me share and I look forward to your comments and suggestions. In the next day or so I will be posting pictures of the layout I am currently working on. It is a 12 x 12 for scrapbooksteals.com midweek mojo. I love how it is coming along and can't wait to share it!Mandihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12452606575193661146noreply@blogger.com3
